• Question: would we be dead if we didn't have trees

      Most likely, but its hard to tell exactly… So one of the biggest things trees do is convert CO2 back into breathable air, so if we chop down all of the trees there would be not enough air and we would probably die, However other plants do this too and maybe without trees these plants MIGHT be able to to do job well enough for us to survive, but probably not.

      The other thing to think of is that if we never had trees then we may have evolved differently to breath whatever the air would be like without trees, its very hard to call! But in this world we live in yes we need to save the trees
